OSF HealthCare Ranks 25th Among Nation's Integrated Healthcare Networks
For the 11th consecutive year OSF HealthCare has been ranked in the Top 100 IHNs among the nearly 600 integrated healthcare networks in the United States. Specifically, OSF HealthCare was ranked 25th by SDI, a healthcare informatics joint venture firm, as reported in the January 26th issue of Modern Healthcare. OSF HealthCare includes OSF St. Francis Hospital, OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center, OSF Saint James – John W. Albrecht Medical Center, OSF St. Joseph Medical Center, OSF Saint Francis Medical Center, OSF Saint Clare Home, OSF St. Mary Medical Center, OSF Holy Family Medical Center, OSF Saint Francis Medical Center College of Nursing, OSF Saint Anthony College of Nursing, OSF Medical Group, OSF Saint Francis, Inc., OSF Home Care Services, and OSF Healthcare Foundation.
SDI* has been ranking integrated systems for the past 12 years and this year’s Top 100 was chosen from 580+ non-specialty regional integrated health networks from around the country. According to the article in Modern Healthcare, “Subhash Seelam, SDI’s associate product director, attributed the depression in the scores to declines in profitability, which was one of the top criteria governing placement on the list. Conversely, the systems that showed marked gains did so because they found ways to increase margins under a difficult operating environment in 2007 and 2008.”
In an internal communication, James Farrell, Senior Vice President of Marketing & Communications noted, “The Sisters have always organized the many and varied facets of our healthcare services in such a manner to carry out our Mission of “… serving persons with the greatest care and love …” We are actively becoming more of an integrated health network as evidenced by our commitments to the Epic in-patient EMR (electronic medical record), the Supply Chain Management Initiative and Supportive Care Initiative as well as the recent development of service lines for neuroscience, cardiovascular and children’s services. We should consider this type of national recognition as a further testament to our commitment to our Values, in particular, ‘Leadership in the health field and the communities we serve.’”
OSF HealthCare, owned and operated by The Sisters of the Third Order of St. Francis, Peoria, Illinois, includes OSF Healthcare System consisting of seven acute care facilities, one long-term care facility and two colleges of nursing. It also has a primary care physician network consisting of 194 physicians and 48 mid-level providers, known as OSF Medical Group. OSF HealthCare owns OSF Saint Francis, Inc., comprised of healthcare-related businesses, and OSF Healthcare Foundation, the philanthropic arm of OSF Healthcare System and OSF Home Care Services.
