OSF Holy Family Clinics to Offer Free Flu Vaccinations

News Releases | H1N1 Flu Vaccination ClinicsThe Secretary of Health and Human Services, Kathleen Sebelius, has announced the week of January 10-16th be designated National Influenza Vaccination Week.  “We are at a critical moment in the fight against the H1N1 influenza."

"Between April and mid-November, we saw approximately 47 million cases of 2009 H1N1 flu, more than 200,000 hospitalizations, and nearly 10,000 deaths, with the vast majority of the deaths occurring in children and non-elderly adults,” she stated.  Flu activity, whether H1N1 or seasonal flu virus is expected to continue for months.  Flu experts predict a third wave of the H1N1 flu.

What can you do to protect yourself and your loved ones?  Get vaccinated!

OSF Holy Family Clinics has set aside a free walk-in clinic for flu vaccinations.  No appointments are necessary.  Walk-in patients will be accepted from 7 a.m. until 9 p.m., 7 days a week.

A simple form is filled out and the vaccination is administered.   OSF Holy Family Clinics has 600 doses of the vaccine available at the present time.

Together we can fight the flu.  Spread the word to everyone you know about the importance of staying healthy and getting vaccinated during the flu season.    The website www.flu.gov was developed for those seeking answers to questions and for updates on the current flu season, recommendations and vaccine availability.

The seasonal flu vaccine which was on delayed shipping to OSF Holy Family Medical Clinics during the months of September through December, 2009 has also been received at OSF Holy Family Clinics.  Approximately 250 doses of the seasonal flu will also be available at the walk-in clinics for a nominal fee of $30.00.  A simple form is also all that is needed along with the payment for the seasonal flu vaccination.  These doses of seasonal vaccine represent the remainder of the seasonal flu vaccine in Warren and Henderson Counties that will be available for the current flu season.  They will be available on a first come, first serve basis until inventory has been exhausted.

Influenza, whether H1N1 or seasonal is unpredictable but we do know that vaccination is the most important step in protecting against influenza strains.  Nearly all the staff at OSF Holy Family Medical Center has received the seasonal vaccine and we are working through the vaccination process of the H1N1 for the staff.  “We want to set an example for the community that says we take our commitment to Every Patient, Every Time seriously and we want everyone possible to get vaccinated to stop the spread of influenza” stated Beverly Van Riper who is in charge of employee health at OSF Holy Family Medical Center.
